Why we started ZERO18
More than just activewear
ZERO18 started with a simple idea: movement should be about so much more than how we look.
We wanted to create activewear for women who move because it makes them feel good. Women who run to clear their head, do Pilates to slow down, go to the gym to feel stronger, swim because they love it, or simply put on their favourite activewear and head out for a walk.
Because movement isn't just about changing our bodies. It can change how we feel.
Finding your why
We're surrounded by messages telling us how we should look, what we should weigh, what we should be striving towards.
Exercise can easily become another part of that pressure.
But what if your reason for moving was something completely different?
To feel stronger.
To prepare you for the day ahead.
Or to clear your head after a difficult day.
To spend time with friends.
To have an hour to yourself.
To feel calmer.
To build confidence.
To push or challenge yourself.
Or simply because you enjoy it.
That's the thinking behind ZERO18. We believe your why matters more than any number on a scale.
Activewear designed for real life
We wanted ZERO18 to be about versatility too.
The clothes you reach for shouldn't have to be reserved for one particular workout. The same top might be worn for a run, or Pilates, or simply paired with your favourite jeans.
We design pieces to move with you, but also to fit into everyday life.
Comfort matters. How something feels matters. And, of course, we want you to feel good wearing it.
But we don't believe feeling good has to mean chasing perfection.
Making more conscious choices
From the beginning, we wanted to think carefully about how ZERO18 was made.
We use deadstock and recycled fabrics and work with UK suppliers and manufacturers wherever possible. We use recycled packaging and labels, and we choose to produce limited quantities rather than creating huge volumes of stock.
We're not claiming to be a perfect or completely sustainable brand. But we believe in making more conscious choices wherever we can and we work hard to do just that.
For us, sustainability isn't about having the perfect answer. It's about asking the questions in the first place.
Where did this fabric come from?
Can we use something that already exists?
Can we work with a local supplier?
Can we produce less?
Can we make something that women will want to wear again and again?
Those decisions may seem small individually, but together they matter.
Made by women, for women
ZERO18 is a female founded brand and we use female led suppliers as a priority. Women are at the heart of everything we do.
But we know that we don't all exercise in the same way. Far from it.
Some of us run. Some lift weights. Some swim. Some do Pilates. Some walk. Some are training for races. And some days, getting outside for twenty minutes is enough.
There is no right way to move.
There is no perfect body.
And there is no perfect workout.
There is simply finding what works for you, what makes you feel good - whatever that means for you.
Doing good as well as feeling good
Giving back is another part of why ZERO18 exists.
We want the brand to contribute to something beyond selling clothes, which is why charitable giving is built into our business.
We support organisations working in mental health and eating disorder support because we believe looking after our minds is just as important as looking after our bodies.
It's part of the bigger picture: Look good. Feel good. Do good.
So why ZERO18?
ZERO18 is more than a collection of activewear.
It's a reminder that movement doesn't have to be punishment.
That getting stronger doesn't have to be about changing how you look.
That buying something new doesn't have to mean buying something disposable.
And that a small business can try to make better choices, even when those choices aren't always the easiest ones.
We're building ZERO18 slowly and intentionally, learning as we go.
Because ultimately we want ZERO18 to stand for something simple:
Move because it makes you feel good.
Wear what makes you feel good.
And do a little good along the way.
